What Are the Uses of Cinnamic Acid?

Cinnamic acid is used in flavorings, synthetic indigo. A major use is as a precursor to producing methyl cinnamate, ethyl cinnamate, and benzyl cinnamate for the perfume industry. 

Cinnamic acid can be used to adjust apples and cherries. It can be used as apple flavor, cherry flavor, fruit flavor and floral flavor. Cinnamic acid is also part of the biosynthetic shikimate and phenylpropanoid pathways. Its biosynthesis is performed by the action of the enzyme phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) on phenylalanine. 

Cinnamic acid can be used in cosmetics. The Casein amino acid enzyme is a key enzyme in melanin synthesis. Cinnamic acid can inhibit the formation of casein aminase, which has a certain effect on the isolation of ultraviolet rays, lightning or even disappearing browning spots, and it's one of the essential ingredients in advanced sunscreens. The significant antioxidant effect of cinnamic acid has a good effect on slowing down the formation of wrinkles.
