Sunscreen can help protect you from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays in two ways. Some methods work by scattering the light, reflecting it away from your body. Others absorb UV rays before they reach your skin.

But understand what this really means. the FDA defines a waterproof sunscreen as meaning that the SPF content remains effective after 40 minutes in water. Extremely high water resistance means it will remain after 80 minutes of swimming. These sunscreens are by no means waterproof, so if you are going into the water, you will need to reapply regularly.
